Back pain

Back pain is one of the most common conditions around the world and severely affects the lives of millions of people; finding some form of medication to bring back pain relief is probably a sufferers first thought, even if it only temporary. Although some medication may be effective and bring pain relief, it doesn't really help with the underlying problem of the condition causing the distress. As far as the sufferer is concerned, this medication should only be taken whilst under supervision by a medical expert.

The reason back problems are so common is because it is so easy to injure the spine; spinal injury is one of the most common conditions around the world and even sitting incorrectly can create a long term problem. The most common way to injure your back though is by lifting badly, it is usually recognized immediately by a sharp pain at the base of the spine. There are a number of natural back pain relief methods that mean you will not have to rely on drugs.
One of the simplest but also underused remedies is just the act of stretching which can bring relief to tense muscles as well. On the other hand reflexology is an alternative medical practice where pressure is applied to the feet to relieve pain in different parts of the body; some are finding relief using this treatment for back pain and other conditions. Relaxing muscles and increasing the effectiveness of the circulatory system are two other reasons to use reflexology.
Although acupuncture is an age old Chinese medical practice that has been used for thousands of years, it is only recently that the Western world has accepted it as an alternative form of back pain relief. Followers of traditional Chinese medicine are of the belief that every person has an inner energy force (chi) that reflects of our state of health, mental and physical. By using thin needles placed into the body at specific points, they can free this trapped (unhealthy) energy. There are large numbers of people that use acupuncture on a regular basis and claim it works well for them providing pain relief; especially those who have what is termed a chronic condition.
Another ancient oriental discipline, Tai Chi is similar to many types of Yoga but the movements are much slower and deliberate. Tai Chi focuses on breathing techniques and is a great way to relax your back. Whilst it involves some stretching and breathing exercises it is not too strenuous which means that anyone, young or old can take part in Tai Chi. To finish, it is a good idea not to forget the huge benefits that exercise can bring in providing back pain relief; this not only conditions the back but is an excellent preventative measure.
